Most homeowners have non-native grasses established on their yards such as Bermuda, zoyisa, or St. Augustine. As the public gets more interested in native plants and attracting birds and other wildlife, they may undertake the daunting task of removal of these grasses. These grasses are extremely aggressive, and many resort to chemical applications for aid in removal. This class will show you techniques to limit the amount of chemical application to control these species and to plant native grasses such buffalo grass and curly mesquite to create a soft turf grass that benefits wildlife and your pocket book. This mixture, known as “sun turf” takes as little as 15 inches of rain to remain green, (Bermuda and St. Augustine need a minimum of 60 inches of water a year). Come on out and learn how to turn your Bermuda desert into an oasis for wildlife!
2 hour class will be held outdoors. 15- 20 minutes of overview with a 1:30 hour field/work component.
